GHENT STUDENT IS ERASMUS PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE
YEAR
Ghent University student Johan Bollaert, Erasmus student in Uppsala,
has won the Erasmus Photographer of the Year award by the Flemish
National Agency (EPOS vzw).

3rd SUMMER SCHOOL
'AGEING BRAIN'
From 31 August till 6 September the 3rd U4 Summer School 'Ageing Brain'
takes place in Goettingen. The program is open to PhD and Master
Students who are interested in Neuroscience and want to be trained to
face one of the biggest challenges of the century.

WORKSHOP SOCIAL NETWORK ANALYSIS AND RESEARCH (GRONINGEN, 25-26 AUGUST
2014)
This workshop for PhD students is intended to deal with the relation
between theoretical and methodological perspectives within the field of
social network theory. The workshop will be open to 25-30 researchers
of the U4 partners. Ph.D. students are invited to submit papers which
outline their research project.

APPLICATIONS
In the
framwork of the DAAD project there are funds available for PhD and
researcher mobility. Deadlines to apply are June 1st (for mobilities in
2014) and July 1st (for mobilities in 2015).

CONFERENCE GLOBAL
STUDIES: CRITICAL AND INTERDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVES
On
June 26 and 27 Ghent University hosts the general conference of the
cluster Social Sciences, Economics and Law of U4. with a.o. the keynote
lecture by Kees van der Pijl, prof. em. University of Sussex
on 'The Discipline of Western Supremacy'.

WORKSHOP SUSTAINABILITY AND RESOURCE EFFICIENCY (NOV. 27 - DEC. 2,
GOETTINGEN)
The aim of the workshop is to give PhD students and young
researchers a state-of-the-art overview of business management methods
key to ensuring sustainability and resource efficiency.

FLAMES
SUMMER SCHOOL IN METHODOLOGY AND STATISTICS (GHENT, 9-19 SEPTEMBER)
Flanders Training Network for Methodology and Statistics (FLAMES)
invites young researchers (particularly PhD students) from all
disciplines to a two-week Summer School in Ghent (8-19 September 2014)
aimed at providing practical methodological and statistical
training.

From 13 till 16 May about 35 students from all U4 partners took part in
the 3rd U4 Student Network Meeting.

From 4 till 8 March the VIth Winter School in Antiquity took place in
Athens on the theme 'Between Resistance and Adaptation. Dealing with
